Congratulations Alexandra Dellios

Congratulations to our own Alexandra Dellios for recently winning the Community Diversity Award in the Victorian Community History Awards for her book Heritage Making and Migrant Subjects in the Deindustrialising Region of the Latrobe Valley.

Published by Cambridge University Press, the book argues that community-initiated migrant heritage harbours the potential to challenge and expand state-sanctioned renderings of multiculturalism in liberal nation-states. In this search for alternative readings, community-initiated migrant heritage is positioned as a grassroots challenge to positivist state-multiculturalism.

The Victorian Community History Awards are presented annually by Public Record Office Victoria in partnership with the Royal Historical Society of Victoria to celebrate the people involved in community history projects who are dedicated to telling local stories which help all Victorians to better understand their past.

Alexandra Dellios is a member of the committee of Oral History NSW and in 2022, with Maria Savvidis, was a guest editor of Oral History Australia’s journal Studies in Oral History, which featured the special theme ‘Migrant Voices: Community Collaboration and Telling Migration Histories’.
